All the yarns or materials used by Ultimate Merino in the production of their products contain Australian Merino wool, either in 100% form or in blends with other fibres. Merino wool has many attributes which offer benefits to the wearer.
Merino wool is Natural, Biodegradable and Renewable: There is no argument that wool is completely natural and is not man-made. Wool grows on the sheep naturally as a form of protection against the elements of nature such as the sun, rain, snow, the wind, and hail etc.
Biodegradable: When wool is disposed of and is buried in the ground, in comparison to other fibres, depending upon soil conditions it quickly breaks down or biodegrades. Wool is rich in Nitrogen a beneficial nutrient i.e. comprising around 16 % by weight, which after decomposing is released into the soil.
Renewable: Wool is a renewable resource.
To produce wool sheep, need grass and water, and the wool will grow. Most sheep are shorn of their wool once per year, and the wool naturally grows back, then it is shorn again the following year and so on.
The natural properties of Merino Wool make it one of the best fibres for wearing in different seasons and locations. Easy Care Technology brings it into the sports outdoor market.
Odour Management: Wool prolongs the build-up of odours. Sweat itself does not in fact smell but forms a warm and damp environment which enable bacteria which cause the smell to multiply very quickly.
Because wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight before feeling wet, this high amount of absorption prolonged the onset of bacterial growth. This means that wool garments are less smelly and need washing less frequently, thus reducing the environmental impact during laundering, resulting in less water and energy usage and less detergent being used and less effluent being disposed of.
Fire Resistant: Wool has natural inherent flame-resistant properties. In comparison to other fibres, wool is difficult to ignite and must reach a temperature of approaching 600oC before it does so. Also, when the source of the flame is removed, wool extinguish itself leaving only a char.
UV Resistant: Wool has evolved over thousands of years and has developed inbuilt protection against harmful UV radiation. Most Merino sheep thrive in hot climates such as Australia and South Africa where temperatures during the summer months reach more than 40ËšC are not uncommon.
Wool is Easy to Care for: All the wool components in Ultimate Merino products are machine washable treated. This enables the consumer to safely machine wash their garment multiple times without the fear of shrinkage or colour bleeding or fading taking place.
Advanced technologies applied in this range include: Hydro-duct moisture management technology, Merino wool warp knitting, and functional structure or fibre used for extra- performance with MERINO Wool.
Hydroduct Moisture Management Technology (HMMT) was developed by Ultimate Merino in collaboration with the Woolmark Company.
Hydroduct is a very efficient moisture management system for garments designed to be worn next to the skin. Hydroduct is a special treatment applied to the fabric which rapidly draws moisture such as sweat away from the skin, and transports it to the outer side of the garment, upon which it quickly spreads to enable evaporation to take place very quickly thus keeping the wearer dry. The Hydroduct finish is also permanent and remains effective after multiple domestic machine washings.
Ultimate Merino offers two versions of the Hydroduct technology, the first it can be applied by Ultimate Merino to any of their 100% Merino wool fabrics or Merino Wool/Polyester fabrics in their circular knitted fabric ranges. Secondly, Ultimate Merino can produce a double layered 100% Merino wool fabric where one side of the fabric is Hydrophilic (Water Loving) and the other side of the fabric is Hydrophobic (Water Hating).
Wool grows on the sheep naturally as a form of protection against the elements of nature such as the sun, rain, snow, the wind and hail etc.
